One week left to pick up a garden-inspired pot from our spring show! Don’t miss the opportunity to get a great gift for mom (Mother’s Day is coming…) or for yourself. This will also be the last show at the West Main location, so come make it special!

Hello fellow potters,
I’m one of the organizers for Charlottesville SOUP, a seasonal public dinner series that provides micro-grants for art projects in town. Our next event is on Monday, May 27 (that’s Memorial Day) and because the last event was such a success, we are growing it a little this time.  It going to be at the Charlottesville  Day School downtown (where resident City Clay potter Katie Hickson teaches.- Thanks Katie for hooking us up with such a great location!)  The handmade bowls we served dinner from were the central aesthetic feature that made the event so special.  We would love to be able to do that again, and would need 50 more bowls to do it.  So…
City Clay is sponsoring a bowl making marathon for the next 3 Tuesdays:

April 23rd: Throwing
April 30th: Trimming
May 7th: Glazing
We hope you’ll consider stopping by again to join in the fun.
SOUPATHON BOWL PARTY

The first SOUP happened in January and sold out. We had to turn away almost 200 people at the door! We got positive news coverage in the C-Ville Weekly, Cville Niche, and on NBC-29.

The concept is pretty simple: attendees donate $10 at the door. In return, they receive soup, bread, pie — and a vote. Finalists pitch their art projects in need of funding. Everybody has a dialogue with their neighbors in a beautiful setting filled with handmade decorations. Then everybody votes during dessert and we award the money collected at the door to the winner. You can see photos of the awesomeness here.

Other sponsors for the next SOUP include Home Depot, Rock Paper Scissors, and Local Food Hub.

SOUP is fiscally sponsored by New City Arts Initiative, which has an enthusiastic following of its own. They’re a 501c3 organization so they can accept tax-deductible donations on SOUP’s behalf.

Thanks so much for reading and considering this!
